Pennsylvania Schedules Exchange Forums

The Pennsylvania Insurance Department will hold a series of three forums in August to let members of the public talk about the new health insurance exchange program.

“The department is actively seeking input from all parties impacted by the formation of health insurance exchanges,” department officials say in a health insurance exchange forum announcement.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA) calls for states to create the exchanges by 2014.

The exchanges are supposed to give individuals and small groups a vehicle for buying high-quality health coverage using a new system of federal health insurance tax credits.

A state could let several exchanges operate within its borders, set up one exchange, join a multi-state exchange consortium, or let the federal government provide exchange services for its residents.

Pennsylvania will hold its forums Aug. 9 in Monroeville, Pa.; Aug. 11 in King of Prussia, Pa.; and Aug. 23 in Harrisburg, Pa.
