The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has hired Eric Thompson – a former Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. executive – to be manager of international relations.
Thompson will succeed George Brady, who has gone on to become deputy secretary general at the International Association of Insurance Supervisors, Basel, Switzerland, according to the NAIC, Kansas City, Mo.
Thompson will now be responsible for leading U.S. state insurance regulators’ participation in IAIS activities and in the activities of other international financial services organizations, such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Paris, according to Kevin McCarty, the chair of the NAIC International Insurance Relations Committee.
Thompson, who has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame, has been a professional staff advisor at the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, and he helped work on the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010.
