Alcoa is partnering with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) to develop the next generation of corporate sustainability reporting guidelines, the company announced July 1.

Corporations around the world are expected to use the guidelines, which will be published in 2013, to change the way they define, deliver and measure their sustainability performance.

The GRI Guidelines, first devised in 1999, help companies measure and report their economic, environmental and social performance.

Alcoa said it would serve as one of the participants and a sponsor of The Global G4 Consortium, advising GRI during the revision of the guidelines.

Alcoa, a producer of primary and fabricated aluminum, issued its own sustainability report last year.
