There were 70 trading days between Oct. 28, 1928 and April 20, 2011 on which the Dow lost more than 5.0% in a single day. The following chart lists the worst days in the DJIA. Twelve were from the 1929 crash and ensuing depression. Four occurred in 2008, two in 1987, one in 1997 and one in 2001.
