Guardian Life Insurance has named Deanna Mulligan its new CEO, effective July 1.

Mulligan, currently Guardian’s president and COO, will succeed Dennis Manning, who will serve as Guardina’s executive chairman until his scheduled retirement in February 2012. As CEO, Mulligan will also become a member of the Guardian board of directors.

Mulligan joined Guardian in 2008 as executive vice president, individual life and disability, and in 2010 was promoted to president and COO. Mulligan previously ran her own insurance consulting firm and has held senior executive roles at New York Life, AXA Financial and McKinsey & Company in her 25-year career.

Mulligan holds an M.B.A. from Stanford and a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Nebraska. She is also a board member of the Life Insurance Council of New York.

“Deanna is a dynamic and visionary leader who represents the values of Guardian,” Manning says. “She puts people first; she sets high standards for herself and for those who work with her; she is the embodiment of integrity and she is committed to our mutual company structure. Deanna is the right person to lead Guardian’s continued growth agenda at this time.”
