The Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education kicked off the fifth annual Disability Insurance Awareness Month campaign Sunday.
LIFE, Arlington, Va., organizes the campaigns to educate consumers, employers and insurance producers about the need for protecting income against disabling illnesses and injuries.
LIFE has hired Rosemarie Rossetti – a motivational speaker who lost the ability to walk in 1998 – to be the 2011 campaign spokeswoman, and it is organizing a round of radio interviews, a consumer photo contest and a producer webinar this month. It also is offering downloadable flyers and other month-related products and services.
CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia (NYSE:CI), participated today by distributing a national press includes that includes a disability insurance literacy pop quiz. The quiz starts with the question, “True or False: People who work don’t need disability insurance because they’re covered by workers’ compensation insurance.” The company also is giving away a consumer information toolkit.
Insurers and producers have discovered that many U.S. consumers have little or no understanding of the difference between disability insurance and workers’ comp.
