Hans J. Sternberg, chairman and CEO of Starmount Life Insurance Co., has been named Business Hall of Fame Laureate by the Baton Rouge Business Report and Junior Achievement.
The award recognizes Sternberg’s lifetime of achievement. He founded Starmount, which is now admitted into 49 states and the District of Columbia and covers more than 520,000 members and dependents nationally. And, with his brother Josef, he operated Goudchaux’s, a renowned department store in Baton Rouge, La., that they grew into an 8,000-employee chain. They later launched the country’s first “Gold Card” and sold the concept to American Express.
