New York Life Insurance Co. has named Elizabeth McCarthy its senior vice president in charge of corporate communications.

McCarthy joined the company in 2003 as head of its agency communications division. She was previously first vice president at Morgan Stanley, where she served as the director of marketing communications for the company’s Individual Investor Group.

In her new role, McCarthy will be responsible for New York Life’s advertising, media and public relations, employee communications and editorial services, the company’s television production studio and a new customer insights unit.

“Liz has played an important role in shaping and aligning our company messaging, especially in the wake of the financial crisis,” said Ted Mathas, chairman and CEO of New York Life. “In her new role, she will have the opportunity to bring further focus and alignment to how we communicate our unique story in our advertising, media relations and branding.”
