Personnel Changes: Meyer-Chatfield, CNO, Nationwide, AXA Equitable, N.Y. Life, Great-West, Evolution

Meyer-Chatfield Corp. wants to increase the size of its support staff about 30% in the coming year to prepare for expansion of bank-owned life insurance (BOLI) sales and administration programs.

Meyer-Chatfield, Jenkintown, Pa., a BOLI firm, says it hopes to take over accounts from firms that are pulling back from the BOLI market.

The firm also has hired Richard Malone to be a vice president and Mark Sollenberger to be a senior compensation consultant for its compensation advisors branch.

In other personnel news:

- CNO Financial Group Inc., Carmel, Ind. (NYSE:CNO), says John Wright has decided against becoming its executive vice president of technology and operations.

Wright, who has been executive vice president of the Wellesley Hills, Mass., U.S. operations of Sun Life Financial Inc. (TSX:SLF), recently said he would go to work for CNO, according to CNO.

Wright has told CNO that, for unforeseen personal reasons, he cannot relocate to Carmel, Ind., the company says.

CNO says it is making up for the loss of Wright by promoting Chris McKee, a CNO information technology executive, to senior vice president, operations, and Todd Coombes to senior vice president and chief information officer, from chief technology officer.

McKee has a bachelor’s degree in management information services from Indiana State University and a master’s degree in management from Purdue University.

Coombes has a bachelor’s degree in information systems management from the University of San Francisco and a master’s degree from Anderson University.

- Nationwide Financial Services Inc., a unit of Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, Columbus, Ohio, has hired Charles Rolph to be director of advanced sales.

Rolph previously ran an employee benefits law practice in Indianapolis. He also has been a life insurance company advanced sales specialist and general counsel of an actuarial and employee benefits consulting firm.

Rolph has a master of science in financial services from the American College and a law degree from the University of Nebraska. He holds th Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant and Certified Employee Benefit Specialist professional designations.

- AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company, New York, a unit of AXA S.A., Paris, has hired John Carlson to be head of life distribution management.

Carlson previously was a corporate vice president and national sales manager for the U.S. insurance group at Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, Springfield, Mass.

Carlson has a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Maine and a master’s degree in business from the University of Hartford. He holds the Chartered Financial Consultant professional designation.

- New York Life Insurance Company, New York, has promoted James Bain to senior vice president and head of the application development organization in the corporate information department, from first vice president overseeing system development for corporate and distribution systems.

Bain is responsible for systems development supporting all U.S. insurance operations.

Bain has a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Dayton. He holds the Fellow of the Life Management Institute professional designation.

- Great-West Retirement Services, Greenwood Village, Colo., a unit of Power Corp. of Canada, Montreal, has hired John Buckley to be regional sales director for Louisiana.

Buckley previously was a regional vice president for Louisiana and Mississippi for John Hancock, Boston, a unit of Manulife Financial Corp., Toronto (TSX:MFC).

Buckley has a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University.

- Evolution Benefits Inc., Avon, Conn., a personal benefit account card company, has hired Lynda Godkin to be vice president and general counsel.

Godkin has been and will continue to be general counsel for Women’s Health USA Inc., Avon, a medical practice management firm.

Godkin also has been a program manager at the Evolution TeacherDollars program, which uses debit cards as vehicles for helping Hartford public school teachers buy educational materials and teaching supplies.

Godkin also has been general counsel of Hartford Life, a unit of Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., Hartford (NYSE:HIG).

Godkin has a bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College and a law degree from Western New England College School of Law.

- The New York office of Locke Lord Bissell & Liddell L.L.P., a law firm, says Rachel Coan is now a partner in the insurance and capital markets areas.

Coan previously was a partner in the New York office of Katten Muchin Rosenman L.L.P.

Coan has a bachelor’s degree from Smith College and a law degree from Rutgers University.
