Jacqueline Cunningham to Take Charge in Virginia

Jacqueline Cunningham will become the Virginia insurance commissioner Jan. 1, 2011, according to the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC).

Cunningham will succeed Alfred Gross, who is retiring. Gross has been Virginia’s commissioner for 14 years.

Cunningham has been deputy commissioner of the life and health division at the SCC’s Bureau of Insurance for more than 6 years, and she has worked for the bureau since 1993.

Cunningham has been active in efforts at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Kansas City, Mo., to help states implement the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. She also has worked with the Virginia Health Reform Initiative Council on health care reform initiatives.
