Frank Todisco, a senior pension fellow at the American Academy of Actuaries (AAA), will become chief actuary of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) Jan. 3, 2011.

The GAO helps Congress keep tabs on matters related to running the government. The GAO chief actuary reports to the top GAO official, the comptroller general.

The GAO chief actuary advises the agency on actuarial matters relating to topics such as health care, Social Security, public and private pension plans, life insurance, health insurance and disability insurance.

The GAO hired a search firm to help it find a new chief actuary in June.

The AAA, Washington, says it will be looking for a new senior pension fellow.
