A financial services school has worked with an insurer to develop a designation aimed at financial professionals who serve families with children with special needs.

The American College, Bryn Mawr, Pa., has worked with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, Springfield, Mass., to create a Chartered Special Needs Consultant (CSNC) designation.

The program will require candidates to complete three academic classes and pass exams. The classes will cover topics such as the role of special needs trusts, taxation issues, wills, powers-of-attorney and guardianships.

The college will start by offering the program to MassMutual employees and agents.
