Prioritize your to-do list: Toughest tasks first

Last week we shared Jack Canfield’s method of using mind-mapping to help reach your goals. The next step is to convert all of the to-do items on your mind-mapped list into daily action items. List each one on your daily to-do list and commit to a completion date for each one. Then, schedule them on your calendar and do whatever it takes to stay on schedule.

The goal is to stay on schedule and complete the most important item first, each day. Canfield likes Brian Tracy’s approach from his book “Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time.” In it, Tracy shows how to prioritize and complete all of your tasks.

In his system, Tracy says to identify the most challenging task on your list. By accomplishing that task first, you make the rest of your day much easier.

Many of us avoid the most challenging task for last, hoping it will just go away or somehow become less challenging. But when you get your toughest task out of the way first, it sets an accomplished tone for the rest of your day.
