Earnings season begins to wind down—though TD Ameritrade, Ameriprise, and some big insurers report this week—as the political season heats up prior to next week’s midterm elections. The final pre-election reports due to be released this week include weekly new unemployment claims on Thursday and the first look at third-quarter GDP on Friday, but new and existing home sales and two readings on consumer sentiment are likely to move the markets, and perhaps voters’ preferences.
Monday, Oct. 25, brings release by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) of its monthly report on existing home sales for September.
Tuesday, Oct. 26, bring the S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index (HPI) for August, while the Conference Board releases its consumer confidence index for October. TD Ameritrade is scheduled to release its third quarter earnings. Schwab Advisor Services’s annual Impact conference is called to order in Boston, where SAS chief Bernie Clark is expected to announce the first partners for Schwab’s nascent “intelligent integration” technology approach. Wednesday, Oct. 27, brings durable goods orders and new home sales reports for September, while companies announcing earnings include Allstate and Ameriprise.
