Members of the Society of Actuaries (SOA) have voted to make Bradley Smith, chairman of Milliman Inc., president for the 2011-2012 term.

Smith will be the 2010-2011 president-elect, according to the SOA, Schaumburg, Ill.

Smith, who received about 50% of the votes cast, is involved in all aspects of life and health insurance at Milliman, Seattle. Before he began to work for Milliman, he was vice president and chief actuary at JC Penney Life Insurance Company, Plano, Texas.

Smith has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois. He is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries.

Smith says he wants the SOA to help contribute to developing solutions to societal issues such as Social Security and Medicare funding.

SOA members also elected 3 new vice presidents: William Falk, Francis Sabatini and Thomas Terry.
