The American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), the trade association of the life insurance industry, will have a new president and CEO on November 3, the association announced Wednesday, September 9.

Dirk Kempthorne will take over from Frank Keating, who has held the position since 2003. Kempthorne has an impressive resume of public service, having held the posts of U. S. Secretary of the Interior under the Bush administration from 2006-2009; governor of Idaho; U.S. Senator from Idaho; and mayor of Boise.

While governor, Kempthorne was the first to sign legislation allowing Idaho to form a Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 long-term care partnership. Now, however, Kempthorne will be heading to Washington, where he will put his experience and contacts to use on behalf of ACLI, which represents more than 300 legal reserve life insurer and fraternal benefit society member companies operating in the United States.
