The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., Simsbury, Conn., has announced the appointment of Scott Sanderson as vice president, government market and client management in the Retirement Plans Group.

Sanderson is now responsible for sales of retirement plans to state, county and municipal employers. He will also lead The Hartford’s retirement plans retention and education teams.

The Hartford, through RPG, has $43.8 billion in retirement plan assets under management as of June 30, 2010.

“Government-sponsored retirement plans are a key growth market for The Hartford and Scott will lead our efforts to continue building our leadership and market share,” said Sharon Ritchey, executive vice president and director of RPG. “With Scott’s leadership, The Hartford will continue to deliver on its key value proposition of expert support and flexibility from a trusted partner.”

Sanderson joined The Hartford in January 2000 as the southeast regional sales manager and was promoted in January 2004 to vice president and national sales manager of the Investment Products Division. Prior to joining the company, he spent six years with AM South Investments Services as a product manager and regional sales manager. Most recently, Scott was vice president and managing director of structured products and head of sales for Hartford Life Private Placement in Legacy Holdings.
