National Western Life Insurance Company, Austin, Texas (Nasdaq:NWLI)

2 Q 2010 Results

NET INCOME: $21 million

REVENUE: $97 million

2 Q 2009 Results

NET INCOME: $19 million

REVENUE: $141 million

- Annuity sales were 101% higher than in the second quarter of 2009.

- Total life insurance sales increased 13%.

REVENUE: $78 million

- Ullico is a union-owned company and the parent of Union Labor Life Insurance Company.

- Life and health business unit revenue fell 5%, to $36 million, but the unit is reporting $1.4 million in pre-tax earnings for the quarter, up from a pre-tax loss of $1 million, mainly because of improved medical stop-loss loss ratios, the company says.

NET INCOME: $9 million

REVENUE: $22 million

- The financial services trading exchange and technology company says demand for exchange services was strong despite weakness in the property-casualty and annuity markets and uncertainty in the health insurance industry.
