A foundation affiliated with a large insurer has rewarded financial representatives’ volunteer work by giving $275,000 to nonprofit groups.

The Northwestern Mutual Foundation, an arm of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Milwaukee, made the gifts in connection with a program that encourages financial reps and financial representative interns to get involved in their communities.

Program managers are making 25 $10,000 contributions on behalf of “outstanding volunteers.”

Program managers also are making one $25,000 contribution, to a food bank — Feeding America Tampa Bay — on behalf of Melissa Powell, who is the year’s “most exceptional volunteer,” the company says.

Powell, who holds the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant professional designations, is a financial representative with the Teague Financial Group, Tampa, Fla.
