Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan plans to move about 3,000 employees to Detroit, from Southfield, Mich., in 2011.

Michigan Blue, Detroit, says it will put the employees who are moving into 435,245 square feet of space in the GM Renaissance Center.

Michigan Blue will also keep its current Detroit offices, which are in buildings near the GM Renaissance Center.

Michigan Blue ended up with vacant space in its Southfield offices after it offered “voluntary separation packages” in 2009, the company says.

Michigan Blue will leave the headquarters of its health maintenance organization subsidiary in Southfield, and it will be upgrading meeting and employee education facilities in New Hudson, Mich.
