A new system may be able to help employers predict which employees will participate in health management programs.

Nationwide Better Health, a unit of Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, Columbus, Ohio, says the Program Participation Prediction Model uses data on the experience of hundreds of thousands of eligible employees, a collection of about 80 research studies, and analysis of the data to suggest how an employer’s demographics, health program incentives, communications efforts, goals, and previous campaign results might affect performance of a new health management program.

The model calculates a range of likely outcomes.

The employer can test the performance of the model and consider adjusting factors such as incentive levels and communications efforts to improve participation levels, Nationwide Better Health says.
