Iowa Eases Funeral Insurance Electronic Filing Rules

The Iowa Insurance Division has relaxed online filing requirements for perpetual care cemeteries and sellers of preneed insurance.

Jim Mumford, the first deputy insurance commissioner at the commission, has explained the new rules in Iowa Bulletin 10-01.

Iowa has been requiring the insurers and sales agents in the preneed insurance and perpetual care cemeteries markets to file annual reports, license applications and license renewals electronically.

“The division is aware that the new on-line filing requirements were difficult for a number of businesses and individuals,” Mumford writes in the new bulletin.

Licenses can still pay fees by mailing checks to the division, Mumford says.

Licensees also can submit reports electronically without going online, by putting the documents on a CD or DVD and mailing the disc to the division, Mumford says.

“Licensees may also submit documents by electronic mail,” Mumford says.
