Adam Lamnin, chief operating officer of Assurant Health, will take the reins as president and CEO of the company in January 2011, Assurant Inc. announced.

He will replace Don Hamm, who has been president of Assurant Health since September 2002 and CEO since January 2003.

“This is the next step we anticipated when Adam came to Assurant Health as COO last year,” said Robert B. Pollock, president and CEO of Assurant, New York.

Hamm first joined Assurant in 1982, then left to join William M. Mercer, a unit of Marsh McLennan & Companies Inc., New York. He rejoined Assurant in 1999 as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Assurant Health.

Lamnin has been with Assurant 18 years. As COO, he is responsible for the actuarial, marketing, sales and product offerings of the company. Since March, he also has headed a company working group planning Assurant Health’s strategy under health care reform legislation enacted in Washington this year.
