Congress is looking for someone who can help it handle the math involved with overseeing a $10 trillion economy.

The American Academy of Actuaries, Washington, reports that JDG Associates Ltd., Washington, a search firm, has asked the academy for help with finding a chief actuary for the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

The GAO helps Congress keep tabs on matters related to running the government. The GAO chief actuary reports to the top GAO official, the comptroller general.

The GAO chief actuary advises the agency on actuarial matters relating to topics such as health system change, Social Security system change, public and private pension plans, life insurance, health insurance and disability insurance.
