Another insurer is getting an early start on expanding the health coverage access available to children of its insureds.

A unit of Trustmark Mutual Holding Company, Lake Forest, Ill., will offer insureds coverage for children up to 26 years of age starting June 1.

The young adult coverage access provision in the Affordable Care Act – the legislative package that includes the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care Education and Reconciliation Act – are officially set to take effect Sept. 23, but most large, national insurers and many other carriers have announced plans to implement the provision early.

Trustmark administers health plans for some self-insured employers. The self-insured employers will have the option of offering young adult access early or waiting until September, Trustmark says.
