CIGNA To Provide Paid Volunteer Day

A health insurer will be giving employees 8 hours of paid time off each year to volunteer for nonprofit health and community service organizations.

CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia (NYSE:CI), says it will make the paid volunteer time program available to the company’s 26,000 employees starting July 1.

The program could benefit CIGNA as well as the nonprofit groups, because studies have shown that volunteering can lead to improved job performance and job satisfaction, and it may even correlate with having better overall health, CIGNA President David Cordani says.
