A committee has named Michael Keenan to receive the 2010 John Newton Russell Memorial Award.

The award recognizes sustained and meritorious service to the life insurance and financial advising industries, according to the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Falls Church, Va.,

Keenan, who is a senior vice president at the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education, Arlington, Va., will receive the award Sept. 14 in Seattle, at NAIFA’s annual meeting.

John Newton Russell was NAIFA’s president from 1916 to 1917 and was a contributing founder of LIMRA, Windsor, Conn., and the American College.

Keenan became a life insurance agent in 1962 and is a member of the Million Dollar Round Table, Park Ridge, Ill. He has recruited about 1,000 NAIFA members. He also was the leader of a campaign that helped NAIFA raise $300,000 to build a wing of the NAIFA headquarters building. Keenan now raises funds for LIFE programs.
