The Financial Literacy and Education Commission, a government agency, has set up a website that gives the government’s thoughts on how consumers should handle their finances.

The FLEC site, at http://www.mymoney.gov, offers a collection of calculators; subsections aimed at specific types of users, such young people, teachers and researchers; and subsections aimed at users facing specific life events, such as having a child, going to college, buying a home or starting a business.

The commission was created by the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003. It includes representatives from many different federal departments and agencies.
