Petersen International Underwriters Inc. says it will protect holders of medical and accidental death coverage against any travel disruption caused by the volcanic dust coming out of Iceland.

Petersen International, Valencia, Calif., a specialty underwriter and Lloyd’s coverholder, will extend medical or accidental plans which were set to expire on or soon after April, if the insureds are affected by the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull.

Coverage will continue until the insured returns home or until May 1, whichever comes first, Petersen International says

Tom Petersen, the firm’s public relations director, notes that he himself has two nephews affected by the flight cancellations in Europe.
