WASHINGTON BUREAU — Congressional Democrats are thinking about imposing a new tax on financial institutions with more than $50 billion in assets.
Insurers oppose the idea of adding the tax, and one industry lobbyist says insurers hope to get Congress to apply the fee only to companies that accepted help from the Troubled Asset Relief Program.
