A New York law firm is setting up a team that will handle what the firm expects to be a large amount of new business related to the new federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
Proskauer Rose L.L.P. says it is forming a Health Care Reform Task Force initiative that will include lawyers in Washington, New York and elsewhere at the firm.
The unit already has organized a PPACA seminar that attracted about 300 participants, the firm says.
Rory Judd Albert, a lawyer at the firm, says that the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 has led the firm to increase the size of its employee benefits practice to 71 lawyers, from 1 back in 1974, and that PPACA easily rivals ERISA in terms of importance and complexity.
