The Nevada Division of Insurance and the Nevada Surplus Lines Association are urging consumers and employers to “check before you write a check” to an insurer.

The Nevada division and the NSLA, Reno, Nev., have commissioned the production of a 15-second television spot that warns viewers about the possibility that an entity claiming to be a health insurance company might not be a real insurance company.

The spot encourages viewers to visit a Nevada insurance division website or call a toll-free division hotline to verify whether the insurance they are considering is being sold by an insurer authorized to do business in Nevada.
