HighTower Advisors, a Chicago-based but multioffice RIA firm, announced Wednesday, March 31, that it added Barnaby Levin as a managing director and partner, and Michael LaMena to the newly created position of chief operations officer.

Levin will be based at HighTower’s San Francisco office where, according to Co-Chairman (and former Schwab co-CEO) Dave Pottruck, the firm hopes to “deepen our West Coast footprint.” Previously, Levin was a director of wealth management at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, and is currently serving on the board of Stanford University’s Institute of Economic Policy Research.

LaMena will oversee HighTower’s Open Source platform and HOST (HighTower Open Source Technology) portal, as well as the firm’s trading capabilities and enterprise relationships with Wall Street’s trading, clearing, and custodial firms. He will report to CEO Elliot Weissbluth. LaMena spent 14 years at Morgan Stanley, where his most recent position was as executive director of private wealth management operations in New York.
