Brandt Brereton has invested a significant sum in R.K. Schaaf Associates Inc., R.K. Schaaf says.

R.K. Schaaf, Calabasas, Calif., helps run employee stock ownership plans, 401(k) plans and other types of plan.

Brereton, a Silicon Valley investment banker, has provided capital that R.K. Schaaf is using to develop a new Web portal for clients, open an East Coast service office, and conduct Repurchase Liability Studies under the RLS Direct brand name.

The size of the investment is not available, R.K. Schaaf says.

R.K. Schaaf has been in business since 1975.

The new RLS services will help ESOP companies buy back stock when distributions need to be made to vested participants who have retired, terminated employment, died or become disabled, R.K. Schaaf says.

Brereton says he believes a variety of factors will make the tax-free ESOP sale business a much more active business over the next decade.
