The Securities and Exchange Commission announced the appointment of Thomas Sporkin, formerly deputy chief in the Office of Internet Enforcement, as the head of a newly created Office of Market Intelligence, which will be responsible for the collection, analysis, and monitoring of the hundreds of thousands of tips, complaints, and referrals that the SEC receives each year. The SEC also said that Daniel Gallagher, a deputy director of the Division of Trading and Markets, left the agency at the end of January to return to private practice.
