The Insured Retirement Institute has completed its transformation with the hiring of Karen Alvarado, the new vice president for compliance and regulatory affairs. The addition of Alvarado completes the group’s government affairs team, which will focus on industry and product expertise.
Cathy Weatherford, IRI president and CEO, praised the new VP, saying, “Karen Alvarado is a true industry leader who brings years of experience to the IRI and immense value to our members. Karen will help give our members an even bigger, more credible voice with regulators, provide real thought leadership on critical issues and help bring our work on standards to the forefront of the industry.”
Alvarado comes from Aegon Insurance Group, Transamerica Capital Management, where she spent four years as vice president and chief compliance officer. Before that, Alvarado was with Pacific Life where she spent ten years as assistant vice president of regulatory affairs; she also logged seven years in that same role with Delta Life & Annuity Company.
