A long term care insurance group has opened an effort to recruit and train up to 2,000 unemployed Americans to sell LTC insurance.

About 5,000 professionals currently market LTC insurance, according to the American Association for Long Term Care Insurance, Westlake Village, Calif., which organized the recruitment campaign.

“This is an opportunity to create jobs, protect Americans and their families from the single greatest financial risk to retirement savings and security for America’s aging seniors,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the AALTCI, in announcing the campaign.

By 2040, the number of elderly aged 85 or older-the age group most likely to need long-term care services-is projected to more than triple, from about 4 million to about 14 million, according to the AALTCI.
