The Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education has announced the six top winners of the Life Insurance Awareness Month photography contest.

LIFE, Arlington, Va., asked participants to send in photos “capturing the moments in life that give us meaning, joy and peace.”

Contestants submitted about 1,100 photos and captions.

The grand prize-winning photo shows the child of the photographer “making a wish for a healthy heart by blowing the seeds of a dandelion into the wind,” LIFE says. “She has had five heart surgeries.”

The winning photographer will be getting a Canon T1i, 12.2-Megapixel Digital SLR camera, and the five runners-up will each receive a $150 gift card.

“We hope these images will prompt people to think about how life insurance can help preserve the quality of life for those dearest to them,” LIFE President Marvin Feldman says in a statement about the contest. “Life insurance can’t bring a loved one back, but it can help ensure that a person’s hopes and dreams for their family won’t die when they do.”
