Agency Argues Reform's State Benefits

Proposed health care reforms could have significant benefits for families, seniors and businesses in many states, a new report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services asserts.

HHS has issued state-by-state reports with details on how it believes reform will benefit each state.

For example, the report says, under health insurance reform:

–4.5 million California seniors would receive free preventive services.

–565,000 Florida seniors would have their brand-name drug costs in the Medicare Part D “doughnut hole” halved.

Without reform, the number of uninsured people will grow by more than 30% by 2019 in 29 states and by at least 10% in every state, HHS argues.

Its state reports can be found at http://www.healthreform.gov/healthcarestatus.html.
