Mark Rosen has been elected chairman of the National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies.

Rosen, president of Underwriters Brokerage Service, Pittsburgh, will succeed Gary Dworkin in 2010, according to NAILBA, Fairfax, Va.

NAILBA elected Rosen chairman in Hollywood, Fla., at its annual meeting.

In addition to electing Rosen chairman, the group elected Christi Daughenbaugh of Dallas to be chairman-elect; Dexter Umekubo of Salina, Kan., to be treasurer; and Raymond Phillips of Pittsburgh to be secretary.

Jack Chiasson continues to be executive director.

At a recent special meeting, Rosen encouraged NAILBA members and insurance company executives toget involved in the political process.

“We are in the midst of the most challenging time in our industry’s history,” Rosen said, according to a summary of his remarks provided by NAILBA. “Given today’s environment, insurance seems to be routinely used as a dirty word and, as a result, we are being inundated with regulatory and legislative proposals that could impact our very existence–all under the guise of consumer protection.”

Independent brokers have to spread awareness of the role that independent distributors play in representing the interests of consumers, Rosen said.
