An insurer is adding voluntary disability coverage and employer-sponsored “benefit credits” to a benefits program aimed at employers with fewer than 500 employees.

Unum Group Corp, Chattanooga, Tenn., first introduced the Simply Unum benefits program in April 2008.

The new voluntary disability coverage and benefits credits were introduced in Arkansas, Colorado, Ohio, Oklahoma, Michigan, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming earlier this week, and those features should be available in most of the rest of the country in 2010, Unum says.

Companies that choose the benefits credits feature can provide a pre-set credit for each employee. The employee can then apply the credit to the coverage of the employee’s choice, Unum says.
