Reacting to last week’s address to Congress, seniors at The Hearth at Greenpoint, in Liverpool, N.Y., expressed mixed views regarding President Obama’s plan. Carlie Lamb-Hill, for one, strongly supports health care reform. “The need for health care for so many people is so severe,” she said.

Another supporter, Michael Vecchiarilli, was impressed by the speech, particularly Obama’s pledge to protect Medicare and provide the controversial “public option” to those who currently cannot afford insurance.

Said Vecchiarilli, “Something has to be done, and I think Roosevelt started it and (Obama’s) starting the same thing.”

Gerry Stone, on the other hand, is still skeptical. “The federal government, when they get anything going, you never know what’s going to happen.” Stone finds that, even after the speech, the specifics of the plan remain unclear to him.

Stone, along with others at The Hearth, want further specifics regarding how the plan will function and how it will be paid for.
