The International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) will once again be sponsoring Active Aging Week this month. The event, which will occur from Monday, September 21st through Sunday, September 27th, promotes healthy living by giving older adults the ability to get active in a safe, friendly and fun environment.
According to the ICAA’s Web site, local senior centers, retirement communities, health clubs, recreation centers, and parks will be sponsoring events aimed at getting people over 50 up and active. The events will be held at community centers, malls, churches, and social clubs and will feature a variety of activities from group-exercise classes and health lectures to concerts and dances.
Active Aging Week is free to participants and provides a sense of community towards getting active. Along with promoting free fun and education on healthy living, the purpose behind the event is to help individuals live life as fully as possible within the six dimensions of wellness outlined on the ICAA’s website: physical, spiritual, cognitive, social, emotional, and professional or vocational wellness.
