Personnel Changes: Munich Re, Penn Mutual, Others

Munich Health North America Inc. has hired Michael Muchnicki to be president and chief executive officer of its Sterling Life Insurance Company unit.

Muchnicki succeeds Debbie Ahl, who has retired, according to Munich Health, a U.S. unit of M?nchener R?ckversicherungs-Gesellschaft A.G., Munich, Germany.

Muchnicki previously was president of Touchstone Health Partnership Inc., New York. He also has worked as a health plan executive for UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn., and he has been president of UnitedHealth plan operations in Ohio and south Florida.

Munich Re bought Sterling Life in 2008.

Sterling, a player in the Medicare market, is committed to that market and will continue to expand its product and service offerings, according to Edward Griese, president of Munich Health.

In other personnel news:

- Thomas Harris is now a senior vice president at Independence Financial Network, a distribution affiliate of Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, Horsham, Pa..

Harris previously was a senior vice president at Prudential Select Brokerage.

Harris has a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science from Temple University. He holds the Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant, and Fellow of the Life Management Institute professional designations.

He is chair of the distribution committee at the American Council of Life Insurers, Washington, and co-chair of the ACLI’s producer licensing task force.

He is a former chair of the brokerage committee at LIMRA International, Windsor, Conn.

- Alliance HealthCard Inc., Norman, Okla., has hired Michael Shiomos to be president of its America’s Health Care Plans insurance marketing division.

- Marsh, a unit of Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc., New York, has hired Michael Herron to be national wholesale relationship leader at the private client life insurance services unit.

The offices of the unit are in Woodland Hills, Calif.

Herron holds the Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant professional designations.
