Assurant Employee Benefits has come up with an option that can help dental plan enrollees make benefits dollars last longer.

The new Preventive Max Waiver option, part of the Lifetime of Smiles program, permits plan enrollees who have it to receive coverage for preventive dental services without the fees counting toward their annual benefit maximum, according to Assurant Employee Benefits, Kansas City, Mo., a unit of Assurant Inc., New York.

The cost of two routine exams, two cleanings and a set of bitewing X-rays costs an average of about $280, according to Assurant data.

By excluding the predictable preventive care costs from the amount subtracted from the annual benefit maximum, the option can help enrollees make more benefits available for services such as filling cavities.
