A medical tourism company has helped set up a liability insurance program designed for employers that offer international medical travel benefits.

Companion Global Healthcare Inc., Columbia, S.C., a medical tourism affiliate of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina, Columbia, says an insurer has agreed to provide up to $5 million in liability protection for employers that offer medical travel programs.

Companion will market the medical travel liability coverage through Custom Assurance Placements Ltd., Columbia.

The policies can cover losses resulting from accidental injuries caused by medical procedures as well as losses resulting from travel accidents, Companion says.

Companion also will offer no-fault medical travel policies through Custom Assurance to individual clients that are not part of an employer-sponsored health plan.
