AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company will celebrate the 150th anniversary of its founding Sunday.
AXA Equitable, New York, started out as the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States July 26, 1859.
The company had a rented office at 98 Broadway in New York, and the first customer was the father of the founder.
The Equitable demutualized in 1992, and AXA S.A., Paris, became its largest single investor that year. AXA bought the rest of Equitable’s shares in 2000.
