Wendell Potter, a former health insurance company public relations executive, is now a senior fellow at the Center for Media and Democracy.

The Center for Media and Democracy, Madison, Wis., says its mission “is to promote transparency and an informed debate by exposing corporate spin and government propaganda and by engaging the public in collaborative, fair and accurate reporting.”

Potter was vice president of corporate communications at CIGNA Corp., Philadelphia, until early 2008, and he also has been head of communications at Humana Inc., Louisville, Ky.

Potter has a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Tennessee.

Potter has started a blog on the center website. He has posted blog entries on topics such as “The Health Care Industry vs. Health Reform” and “Obama’s False Friends of Health Reform.”

Potter contends that health insurers have started supporting a health insurance ownership mandate because a mandate would increase their profits, and that health insurers have increased their profits by using aggressive tactics to shed customers who file claims.
