An insurer has introduced a new cancer insurance program.
Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., Hartford, has worked with the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Austin, Texas, to develop the new LIVESTRONG Wellness Protection Plan.
The guaranteed-issue policy will pay one wellness benefit each year for an insured who undergoes one of 12 recommended cancer screening tests.
If the insured is diagnosed with cancer, the policy will pay a first occurrence benefit. The policy will pay a hospital recovery benefit to insureds who enter the hospital due to cancer, and it will pay a recurrence benefit to insureds whose cancer comes back.
A percentage of policy premiums will go to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, and insureds who learn that they have cancer will have access to the LIVESTRONG SurvivorCare program.
Hartford will be marketing the program through associations and affinity groups.
