Sun Life Financial (U.S.) is rolling out a new group life plan and upgraded disability and dental plans for public-sector entities, including schools and municipalities.

The life plan is available to employees in public works, police and fire departments, says Sun Life Financial (U.S.), Wellesley Hills, Mass., a unit of Sun Life Financial Inc., Toronto.

The life plan includes waiver-of-premium provisions to cover older employees, extended leave-of-absence coverage for teachers, and an optional felonious assault accidental death and dismemberment rider that covers employees such as safety officials and school district personnel.

The disability and dental plans are now open to more part-time employees, Sun Life says.

The long-term disability plans do not require employees to use accumulated sick leave.

The LTD plans include the retro disability benefits and zero-day residual benefit as standard, and pension contribution benefit and child care benefit as options.

The dental plans include options such as vision insurance, adult orthodontia, and a cosmetic rider.

The plans also come with money-back service guarantees.

The public-sector program is part of an ongoing Sun Life initiative to deliver specialized benefits to segmented markets, the company says.
